New Crop of Afghan Returnees.

There have been two terrorist incidents emanating from unidentified elements in Pakistan, which, as of now, appear unconnected, but which may, in fact, be connected.

The first is the attack on security personnel outside the American Centre in Kolkata (Calcutta) on January 22, 2002, and the second the subsequent kidnapping of Daniel Pearl, the Mumbai-based South Asia Bureau chief of the "Wall Street Journal" (WSJ), while he was reportedly on a visit to Karachi to investigate into the Pakistani links of Richard Reid, the "shoe bomber", who is presently under detention and investigation in the US for allegedly trying to blow up an American commercial airliner by setting fire to explosives concealed inside his shoes.
