Use of the map of J&K
by different nations and agencies |
| Basically there are four major international versions of J&K maps. |

India's position on J&K is "The State of Jammu and Kashmir is and shall be an integral part of the Union of India". This is backed by various documents including
"Instrument of Accession"
. Therefore Indian official maps shows Pak Occupied Kashmir (POK) and China Occupied Kashmir (COK) with specific mention on the map. View this map by Embassy of India, USA

Pakistan's version of J&K map.
Pakistan claims Indian Kashmir is a disputed territory. Therefore they show POK as integral part of Pakistan and "Indian Kashmir" as disputed territory. They also show COK as an integral part of China. This is the most distorted version of J&K map. Only Pakistan and Microsoft follow this map and no responsible international agencies accept this version in any way.

United Nations map of J&K area.
First of all, to avoid all controversies UN does not show map of India or Pakistan. They have only
South Asia
and J&K area map. In J&K map they clearly show line of control and mention a note at the bottom that "the status of J&K is not finalized by both the parties". UN does not use word 'Disputed' anywhere . BBC and New York Times and very few other responsible agencies use
UN version of J&K map
in their news. This is the least objectionable international version of J&K area.

Most erroneous version of JK map is by American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
CIA assumes itself as an international cop and has developed their own version of world facts. They have a "World Fact Book" providing geographic, demographic and historical data about possibly every country in the world. This fact book is truly regarded as a 'World Fact Book' by about 90% of the agencies around the world. Those who do not want to do their own research, refer to this fact book to publish the information. (for example yahoo takes CIA's map of India on their records)
CIA's version of J&K map
clearly shows COK with proper mention. With the same logic they should have shown POK and 'Line of Control' with specific mention. But unfortunately they have twisted the facts there. Because of their bias towards their "friend" they include POK in Pakistan as an integral part of Pakistan. This is a gross favor to Pakistan and a misrepresentation of the world facts.
