Letter To Dr. Kalia - Father of martyr Capt. Saurabh Kalia
by Pranawa C. Deshmukh

February 24, 2002

Dr. N. K. Kalia
Father of Captain Saurabh Kalia
Capt. Saurabh Kalia Marg,
Saurabh Nagar
Palampur-176061 (Himachal. Pradesh)
India

Dear Dr. Kalia:

It made us extremely proud to read from Professor Asnani's communications about the valor and sacrifice your brave son has made for our motherland. Many of us read, and re-read the horror of the horrendous treatment handed to your brave young son who at a tender age showed exceptional courage and overcame utmost inhuman torture, inspired by his sense of duty and love for Bharat Mata.

I made an unsuccessful attempt to imagine the brutality described by you which your brave son not only faced but conquered. I do hope that Indians the world over take a note of your dirge communicated to the administrators of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in which you have demanded rightfully to know the exact date on which your brave son was murdered by the Pakistan army in complete violation of all civilized norms. Regrettably, this brutal act was committed by Pakistan’s State Army itself and General Musharruf, the Supreme Commander of this disgraceful army owes an apology to you first, and in fact to the entire humanity.

I am sending a copy of this letter to many of my friends who I trust will voice their anguish and demand this apology from General Musharruf who is now emerging as the favorite of American administration complemented lavishly for taking a U turn on his policy on Talibans. Indians the world over must demand that if Musharruf seeks credibility about his changed stance that he claims and for which he gets much undeserved credit, he must first submit an apology to you even before he hangs his head in shame on the recent Daniel Pearl case.

I had the proud privilege of meeting yesterday, on behalf of a small group here in Chennai called 'Citizens for Armed Forces', Major General R Karthikeyan (Retired), who was in uniform until recently and was actually present at Captain Saurabh's funeral. General Karthikeyan instantly remembered Captain Saurabh and in fact recollected having met you also. General Karthikeyan was extremely supportive and sympathetic, and he proposed that we write to Lt. Gen.S.Choudhury (address: GOC, 11 Corpse, C/o 56 APO) about this matter. The ‘Citizens for Armed Forces, Chennai’ would certainly write to Lt. Col. Choudhury, as also many other Indians the world over. We all would also write to General Musharruf about this matter. He must answer your question with regard to your son and his brave fellowmen: "Please go and ask those (Pakistani) soldiers how they (the Indian soldiers in captivity who were murdered) were treated?"

Dr.Kalia, we salute the heroism of your son. In his valiant death lives the eternal inspiration for all Indians. We salute also the infinite sacrifice made by you and your family for giving your young son to protect the honor of our motherland.

Regards

Prof. Pranawa C. Deshmukh
